Baby steps

My update is very late this week because lots of things have happened. I have made some progress in between all of the distractions so it is not all lost.

The contract work is all but finished, I have got most of the resources I need for the super secret project. I need to start looking at CoCos2D-X sooner rather than later as the need is heating up at work. Hopefully I will get a little time over the weekend. My current tasks are as follows

  1. Finish Info Grab – Still nothing
  2. Create wedding invites – Nothing new has happened
  3. Super secret project – Gained resources

Hopefully more of these items will be gone this time next week

Much love

Excelsior

Back once again with the weekly update. I am feeling positive today thanks to a jog around the block. I made some progress last week but not as much as I should. I worked a little on the wedding invite. I created a basic template and then researched ideas around it. I now need to start to implement a few of the ideas. I have also decided to focus on the contract work over Thursday and Friday as I have both of these days off. With fingers crossed I hope to finish it before the end of Friday. I also urgently need to work on a super secret project for my lovely partner Amy's birthday. I am a little worried about getting the resources for that as I am affluently challenged at the moment.

Here are the offical updated on my current objectives

  1. Finish Info Grab - Nothing
  2. Create wedding invites – Initial draft created
  3. Finish contract work. - Work scheduled
  4. Super secret project – design phase started

Type you next week

Keep on keeping on

With only 49 weeks left of this year I will jump straight into the report on last week’s progress. Although I did not achieve as much as I hopped I am still happy with my progress. I read to the end of Chapter 3 of my C book and added a 'currently reading' section to my folio site. I also added a much better personal details section and managed to resolve a bug. I did not manage to go through the C examples but I am hoping to rectify that this week.

My goals for this week are as follows

  1. Install Mint on my netbook
  2. Complete half of the C book examples
  3. Finish my details gathering android example.

I created a little android application that records a few details about the device it is running on as a way to capture details that are not easy to come by, such as the virtual DPI and device type as predicted by the screen width in DP. As I currently do not have any folio examples of android I feel with a little work it could be a good example.

To finish I present to you a random doodle I drew of my friend Ian on his graduation day.

A silly drawing

new new for 2014

Hello 2014!

As the title might suggest I have a new, new plan for 2014 as I have done very little in the way of indie games since gaining employment. Basically this plan involves setting some goals for the week via this here blog and then attempting to achieve them. Its so simple it might actually work.

This weeks goals

  1. Read to the end of chapter 3 of C book.
  2. Work through all C examples
  3. Add a reading list section to my folio

I will leave it there for now, I don’t want to over reach on my first week.

Also I have added a Scraps section to this site. This contains a sampling of abandoned games.

Finally after a short break I finally finished my current Random Jam, it is called Flying Queen Motion and can be played HERE!

The hunted hunter

Hello dear reader,

Things are progressing nicely. I have two jobs that I plan to apply for on Tuesday (after Amy has double checked my CV for me) and a whole heap of other jobs to look at when I do apply. I have spent the last couple of weeks working away on my portfolio which is now whipped into shape. I am currently working on the meat of the portfolio, the examples. Right now I am focusing on ASP.NET and C# with a special interest in creating components with a dynamic client side element. I have a week long project planned for next week that is very ambitious but will provide an excellent example of my ASP.NET skills. Thinking about it I should probably spend a little time today working on it so that I have a head start on Monday.

I have also moved in with Amy, we are currently staying with her parents in Hertfordshire. As of next week we are house sitting for a month, this should hopefully give me enough time to secure a job so it won't be too long until I get my first pay check and then we finally get our own place.

I am planning to spend this coming Sunday working on a new random jam called "sparkling clone love". It is going to be a real challenge to get it done in a day but I can't really afford to spend time on something other than gaining employment. I am really looking forward to getting back to work. Making games is great fun and gives me an amazing sense of achievement but is fraught with too many issues for it to be considered as a full time vocation.
